core-dns does not support compression - need to edit config to make aws bucket resolution to work

Open royire opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

Description

trying to do curl https://<my_aws_bucket_name>.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/ was not working, looking at core-dns logs and saw dns: buffer size too small after running: kubectl edit configmap coredns -n kube-system and changing the relevant section to: (added force_tcp) forward . /etc/resolv.conf { force_tcp max_concurrent 1000 }

and then running: kubectl rollout restart -n kube-system deployment/coredns solved the issue

got the solution here: https://serverfault.com/questions/1145927/kubernetes-cluster-via-kubeadm-coredns-buffer-size-too-small-pods-network-pr

Reproduce

kubectl run dns-test --rm -i --tty --image busybox -- /bin/sh
curl https://<my-bucket>.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/
k logs deploy/coredns -n kube-system
[ERROR] plugin/errors: 2 test-data.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com. A: dns: buffer size too small
[ERROR] plugin/errors: 2 test-data.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com. A: dns: buffer size too small
[ERROR] plugin/errors: 2 test-data.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com. A: dns: buffer size too small
[ERROR] plugin/errors: 2 test-data.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com. A: dns: buffer size too small

curl https://.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/ outside the container is working!!

Hi @royire! is it something that used to work with previous versions of Docker Desktop?

dgageot avatar Feb 14 '24 21:02 dgageot

yes it is, it is now happening to almost all of our developers upgrading to the latest macos major and docker > 4.24

@royire do you have a quick repro that doesn't involve k8s?

dgageot avatar Feb 28 '24 10:02 dgageot

looks like a duplicate of #7088?
