[Question] Comparison with Plasmo.JS

Open GreenMan36 opened this issue 9 months ago • 1 comments

I was looking at a tool called Plasmo.JS and found this repo through a bit more searching and this Reddit post.

I was wondering if you could provide a comparison of Plasmo vs Xtensio. As far as I can see, Plasmo supports more browsers and more frameworks but it might just be a bit too overkill for smaller projects.

Hi @GreenMan36, the aim of xtensio is to get you from nothing to an extension with little as possible. Our docs are very straightforward, simple & short.

check xtensio.io for the docs

Note: xtensio also supports an equal amount of browsers as Plasmo does. Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc,...

Plasmo has a gread branding, BUT, I tried to create a project with PLASMO. I got some points that were covered by Xtensio and not PLasmo:

  • DEV MODE: Xtensio launches a browser in DEV mode while plasmo don't
  • Security issue: A project with plasmo currently spawns 70 issues with npm audit
  • The doc of Xtensio is indeed clearer than Plasmo
  • Maintenance/community: It looks like Plasmo community is bigger.

In fact I tryied to move from xtensio to plasmo thinking (maybe via the branding) that it was the move to make for the future. But I must admit, I find Xtensio better.

Thanks @wattazoum I'll love to know what you're building with xtensio and if any, the difficulties you've faced

Hello

Thank you for your answer. The first issue there currently is, is the website. It's down, so in my team, I can't tell then to learn about xtensio. Then , there are the security issues in the dependencies that are not updated.

Beside that, your tool is extremely simple and easy to run. IMO , it's currently better that plasmo for creating extensions.
