So I kinda did a thing... (CGA + Sixel)
I'm not sure this would be of interest, I kinda know you had a different vision for your tool, but I kinda wanted to show it off, its buggy and not written well, but it worked!
Alley cat seems to hard lock when getting past the intro screen.
I have not pushed this anywhere as of yet, but if people are interested I can.
Bloxinies (2013) actually plays more or less fine, with a bit of odd screen corruption, but seems to be completely working. (source available/freeware here) https://thandor.net/article/34
This is pretty cool!
I'm interested in this! Could it be adapted to 16 color VGA at all? It might be useful or fun for some reverse engineering work I'm doing.
I actually started working on VGA stuff as well. So the 320 by 200 mode 13, and then the 16 color mode 12. I do not think I'm aiming for any sort of complete support. So no CRTC register stuff. Obviously for mode 13 the pallet would have to be supported. But I think the X and Y modes I may not support. I'll look into it if there's like a trivial way to do it without deep diving into arcane VGA knowledge territory... Although I still have my "Programmer's Guide to the EGA and VGA Cards" book.
The games I'm looking at really only use 16 colors in standard mode 13, 320x200, so that would be perfect.
