Solves the problem described in #25 Tests are failing on this branch as well as on master (Python 3.8, macOS 11.2)

@ivasio, I see lots of unrelated formatting changes.

After that I'd suggest to add dmontagu to reviewers for better visibility.

Hi guys, I also need this feature to add headers for authentiction. Is this repostiroy maintained now ? If so, I'd like to contribute from this PR, but remove unrelated formatting changes.
