Closing and Reopening an Epichrome app brings up Chrome Browser with Tabs and blank page

Open hendyj opened this issue 7 years ago • 7 comments

This is on OSX High Sierra. I made an app using epichrome for Google Calendar. If I minimize the window and click the icon in the dock google calendar shows up and everything is fine. If I close the window (the app is still running in the dock) and click the icon in the dock I get a new window running chrome with tabs instead of Google Calendar. If I close out of the app out of the dock and reopen it everything is fine again with Google Calendar.

Also seeing this - closing all windows of Epichrome app then reactivating from the dock opens an empty Chrome tab rather than the app itself.

I'm having this issues as well. I'm new to Epichrome, but love it other than this issue. It would be great if it could either:

  1. Quit the app when the window is closed
  2. Reopen the same original view/homepage/url setup when app was first created with Epichrome.

This may be a limitation with Chrome itself, but would love it if a fix could be found.

Also having this problem. Even tried going into settings to set the startup page, but that had no affect. Chrome 67 OSX 10.12.6 Epichrome 2.1.20

Yep. Still an issue. Not just Google Calendar; seems that all Epichrome apps behave this way.

  • Chrome 72
  • MacOS 10.14.3
  • Epichrome 2.2.4

So this isn't a bug so much as just the way Chrome behaves on Mac. If you close all the windows of an instance of Chrome, the underlying program is still running, so attempting to relaunch it will just bring it to the front (and in this case open a blank window, which is the default Chrome behavior).

That said, enough people are unhappy with this behavior that I have it on the agenda to add some options to the extension so that if all windows are closed, an Epichrome app can either quit, or reopen its startup window(s). I'll eventually be releasing a beta version of the extension, and when I do that, I'll post on this thread so you can give it a try.

I'm seeing this on 2.3.27. This Brave rewards page in a tabbed window keeps popping up. This is after recreating my app with 2.3.27. I can't get it to load my desired webpage, and going to Home doesn't do it either. It's like this rewards page is hijacking Home.

This all stems from an unclean shutdown of the computer that updated Brave it appears.

Hi @robszumski, this is due to the app engine not deactivating due to your crash. You need to launch the app from the main app bundle, as outlined here.
