Skype couldnt connect suddenly, now having issues

Going to do a quick run down of what happened. So for no reason I can tell I got on today and skype could no longer connect, though everything was fine yesterday. So after restarting my computer, then going away for a few hours, then coming back and still not connecting, restarting the modem, and doing everything under the sun I could think of with my actual connection I decided to uninstall and reinstall Skype though skype still couldnt connect.

So I went into my appdata roaming skype folder and deleted everything there so it would have to make everything fresh. I run through the first time setup stuff and I get Skype to connect, though everything looks different of course. I look through all the options I can find to change it back to something I can stand but the chat has this weird bubble look I dislike. Here's a picture. http://puu.sh/zgL3w/0fa37a9a83.png

Smartly I saved a backup of my old skype folder before I deleted it, and I make another backup of the new skype folder which is working. When I try saving over the old folder to the new one the chat appearance changes back to the way I like it but I once again have problems connecting. With some narrowing it down I find it has specifically to do with the config.xml file in the skype user folder. AppData\Roaming\Skype\username

I'm not sure if I should upload the config files here or not but if you need them let me know. The old one is 49kb while the new one is 27kb so almost twice as large, and when I went to look at it myself I have no idea what Im looking at. But mostly Im wondering if anyone can help me get rid of profile bubble icons in the chat so it looks like this again but still allow skype to connect~ heres another pic. http://puu.sh/zgLke/ca5f9609da.png

(Edit) Hmm, I can just make the window smaller by dragging it to the left to make the icons disappear so... I guess thats good enough. Wish I could remove the bubble chat but... neverming I guess. Cant seem to delete the comment but its here in case anyone needed to know.
