There are already some sample output files in https://github.com/PecanProject/pecan/tree/develop/models/ed/tests/testthat/data, if those don't meet your needs - e.g. doesn't have multiple pfts, consider adding a (small) new one that does.

Try setting [NL%ATTACH_METADATA](https://github.com/EDmodel/ED2/wiki/ED2IN-namelist#ed2in_attach_metadata) to 1 for generating test data; otherwise the outputs and their dimensions are difficult to interpret.

I like the idea. I don't recall what all the files in the workflow directory - does this include all of the model outputs or other files that could grow...

@mdietze I thought about discussing first but wanted to put this up there as a starting point. Perhaps if we really make this bare-bones and/or automatically parse lines from workflow.R...
