Maybe it should be configurable? Like with a toggle on/off?

We could say the same about the already changed WoP trap which is totally different from the main game.

What I think we should focus on is something that feels logical and good, that has both the right amount of damage and knockback. This fix creates a good base trap that we can now balance. Adam figured out Bullfrog most likely intended it to work this way.

This change also concern the creature ability, in that regard it's a big change, which is why maybe it should be a toggle?

Word of Power in general is very weak, but it's now clear that it's a result of poor implementation rather than poor design. I'd be surprised if there are maps built specifically around the way it works currently, but if there are, mapmakers can customise the trap to what they want.

@AdamPlenty can you maybe include a prototype build so people can test this out?

How do I trigger a build?

I tried it, the WoP damage now is totally ridiculous. I created 4 enemy lvl10 dragons and they destroy absolutely everything, totally overpowered. Am I to assume this should come with new configs too with rebalanced damage values? If so, could you add it?

It's already totally ridiculous, just on the other extreme. However, I'm fairly sure the Word of Power Trap is supposed to deal this much damage, given that it only has three shots. Dunno about the spell, but don't we already have all the config options required? Or did you mean new values for those settings?

AdamPlenty avatar Jul 20 '23 19:07 AdamPlenty

New values yes, something you propose as sensible. Now just having a few dragons instantly kill entire armies totally breaks the game.

Armies of what? I tried putting a few Dragons against a bunch of level 10 Knights, and the Knights still won. I had t have a load of Dragons for them to win. Tried a few Dragons against a level 10 Avatar. The Avatar won.

Dragons do not fight armies of knights, there is typically just one knight as the lord of the land, AND Avatar has WoP too. Armies of mixed heroes, that you would normally get on typical maps. But say, put 3 dragons against 12 barbarians and see what happens.

Loobinex avatar Oct 29 '23 17:10 Loobinex

Barbarians won overwhelmingly; not a single Barbarian died. I don't know what you're doing, but it seems to be already well-balanced to me so far.

I don't know what you are doing,... I build your version and took your configs, created 4 lvl10 dragons and 16 lvl10 barbarians, waited til WoP to charge then opened the door for the barbarians. They all died with a single shot doing basically 0 damage to any dragon and the fight was over instantly:

Well, that isn't what happens for me. Why is it so different for you? 😕

For me, the Dragons' WOP only half-kills the Barbarians, who still win overwhelmingly.

AdamPlenty avatar Oct 30 '23 02:10 AdamPlenty

A possibility has occurred to me: could your Barbarians be being hit by multiple Words of Power at once? That would explain why yours are dying so quickly but mine aren't; mine are splitting into groups and spreading out, so my the Dragons' Word of Power are only hitting so many Barbarians.

I used my dragons wisely indeed. What a player will attempt to do too,...drop the 4 dragons (which is not many to have) onto a cluster of heroes and they are all dead immediately.

Tried it in an enclosed space. Barbarians still won.

Are you sure you took your own config?
