[Request] Audiobook support
Right now, audiobooks are not recognised as their library type is books. An extra tab for audiobooks in the app could be a great way to get started implementing this, as the current way audiobooks are presented by Jellyfin would be good enough there too.
I think it would help distinguish the app even further: Gapless playback and better media controls compared to the Jellyfin app would be awesome for audiobooks. Especially the first one would be awesome since there can be quite big pauses between tracks with the Jellyfin app or in the browser when a new chapter of 60-minute length has to be loaded completely for playback to start!
Came here to request this, I think the ability to simply "import" any library from Jellyfin would make more sense.
The ability to set custom "category" names, and merge libraries together would be cool as well. Like create a new page (tab) on the app, then select which libraries you want to go into it.
@dkanada I added a feature request a couple days ago for audiobook support and you recommended that I follow this one then closed my post. This request was made almost a year ago and there is no comments on this.
Is it something that you would be interested in looking into or will it be too much of a hastle. Not trying to be rude, just wondering what your thoughts are.
There are quite a few shortcomings with the current codebase that would be difficult to fix for audiobook support, which is why I haven't prioritized it so far. Apparently the current audio player doesn't even properly seek for long tracks, which would be detrimental when trying to play an audiobook. There are lots of other features like offline support or Chromecast that I would probably work on before trying to add this feature unfortunately.
