Correct, the app is using the web interface so it would have the same behavior. No update on this personally though.
I've wanted to fix this for ages but it really requires a huge refactor of the video playback objects, which is probably why no one else has fixed this either.

Whether or not we should link to external apps for trailers feels like more of a server question. Since the server currently supports it I'd say it's a net positive...
