in windows 10 I dropped it in the C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions and it does absolutely nothing not even detected as a plugin in the extensions! VLC 3.0.20

3.0.20 is a patch version so in theory it should work. I don't have a Windows machine at hand to check it right now. You could try to set it for your user account only, I believe %AppData% should be "C:\User\YourUserName\AppData". I assume you're running 64-bit version of VLC, but just in case, if you're running 32-bit version of VLC then "%ProgramFiles%" environment variable returns "Program Files (x86)" folder.

no way, I put it in %APPDATA%\vlc\lua\extensions\ and in %ProgramFiles%\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\ too, but does not appear in View menu. For example if I put "playNext in Folder" addon from "https://pastebin.com/2zukFHVF" in both place, then "playNext in Folder" will appear twice in View menu! image

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, you caught me when crunch time started, and then I went away to get some rest.

I tested width VLC 3.0.20 64bit in Windows 7 and Windows 10 (it was an older version of Windows 10, I only use Windows for gaming), and I didn't have any issues. Today I updated Windows 10 to 22H2, and I still can't reproduce your issue, it works as expected.

Is there anything logged when you open Tools > Messages?
