Muting threads

Expected or desired behavior

I'm on a bunch of mailing lists that I find value in. But sometimes there are threads I'm not interested in. Every time that thread gets a reply, I get that thread back in my mu headers (I have threading enabled) - which is annoying.

I'd like to be able to "mute" a thread - to me this means new mails in that thread are automatically marked read.

Actual behavior

I see no flag options or documentation in the manual that explains how to do this.

I'm happy to contribute code to implement this, but I don't want to forge ahead if this is something that already exists or if it's something you are opposed to.

This works pretty well except I get error in process filter: mu4e-error-handler: Error 3: unknown error occasionally.
