It's hard to find partners if the cell is too small to see

You can add different color cross when they are so small, after they get bigger,(around 400mass) cross should dissapear.

It's good. But when you get more and more users, there will be too many crosses on the minimap.

But they will be there only till they get enough mass. after 400 mass you can easily see without crosses, if you re playing with people, you would like to know where they are. I dont think I mind few crosses untill they get enough mass as long as I get the info I need...
