installing 8821AU without effect

I've tried dkms-installing the driver for 8821AU, version 4.3.20, and everything ran successfully. dkms status returns rtl8821AU, 4.3.20, 4.15.0-29-generic, x86_64: installed but modprobe rtl8821AU gives modprobe: FATAL: Module 8821AU not found in directory /lib/modules/4.15.0-29-generic

any idea what could've gone wrong?
