Reg_Shape definitions in DICe

Could you give a brief elaboration on each of the shape functions - translational, rotational, normal stretch, shear stretch ? What kind of output files do each of these give!

Also, VSG strain value remains to be zero (0), is there any option that should be ticked/marked in the DICe section for obtaining a proper strain value post processing in paraview?

The details about the shape functions (and the rest of the gradient-based algorithm) can be found here: https://github.com/dicengine/dice/blob/master/doc/reports/LocalGradientAlgorithm.pdf

I'm not sure why you are not getting zero strains in the output. One reason could be that the correlation failed for all your subsets (which would be signified by sigma = -1.0). Another reason is that your strain window could be too small for your subset spacing. The last reason I can think of could be that you don't have the "compute strain" check box checked in the options panel.

How do we select the subset and the step size ?

I mean what is the criteria to decide on the number for the subset and step size ? Gauge size too!

A good reference for these kinds of questions is the Good Practices Guide for DIC found here: https://idics.org/guide/

Hi,

What are the variations in the results- When the best fit plane is used or otherwise?
