I tried to reproduce the issue when...

  • [x] AdNauseam is the only extension
  • [x] AdNauseam uses default lists and settings
  • [x] Using a new, unmodified browser profile

Description

Hi. Dudes! I have been using your beautiful extension for over 10 years. Please fix the plugin compatibility issue for Google Chrome.

If this defect seems minor to you, can I make edits to the plugin source code myself to adapt Manifest to the current version 3?

I believe this is simply a warning at this point and it can still be manually enabled.

However it is only a matter of time.

I installed the latest release at the time, that's the point. It's the adnauseam-3.24.6.chromium.zip build. It installed successfully. But after running GChrome the next day, the warning came up again that the plugin is not supported, uninstall. Something needs to be done, don't you think? Or write a crutch how to bypass this temporarily. Thanks in advance!

Indeed something needs to be done. But unfortunately we don't have the resources to support a hobbled version of AdNauseam that satisfies the problematic Manifest V3. So we recommend switching to a chromium-based browser that will support extensions like ours, at least for the near future. For example, I am currently using Ungoogled-Chromium and find it far better on just about every dimension than Google's version.

Well, absolutely agree with you, Chromium is a good alternative. But hint the correct repo link that you use. Thanks in advance! Because I am installing this browser from here: https://chromium.woolyss.com/download/

And the second question that's hanging in the air. Is it possible for me, as an IT specialist, to rewrite the Manifesto to version 3 on my own? Or does it entail changes in the plugin code as well? And in general, everything is not easy...

@AlexFish2013, unfortunately, Manifest V3 significantly changes the API for browser extensions. While it is theoretically possible to create a somewhat functional version of AdNauseam under V3, it would require an almost complete rewrite of various core aspects of the code, so to make an adaptation yourself would be quite a huge task.

Thank you very much, the scale of the disaster is clear and insurmountable. Google is switching to Manifest version 3, allegedly for security reasons, including for plugins. Nevertheless - it is ineffective, i.e. hackers have already successfully managed to bypass the limitations of Manifest version 3. I generally believe that Google's real reason was to remove the “harmful from their point of view extension”, which is AdNauseam. So that leaves the option of switching to Ungoogled-Chromium for now.

My understanding is that unfortunately the entire point of manifest v3 is to prevent extensions such as adnausium from working. Part of the reason I stopped using firefox in the past was they did something similar breaking all the extensions I relied upon.

Hi, Dudes! Your advice to install AdNauseum on UnGoogle Chrome failed miserably. When I try to install the latest version in developer mode, I get an error message about manifest incompatibility.

Can you please provide links to the correct UnGoogle Chrome? Your wonderful extension does not work on this version: https://ungoogled-software.github.io/ungoogled-chromium-binaries/releases/windows/64bit/

Hey @AlexFish2013 ,

Did you try with the latest instructions?

You need to:

  1. Visit chrome://flags/#allow-legacy-mv2-extension

  2. Enable "Allow legacy Manifest V2 extensions"

This is a temporary solution, it should work for now.
