drakecomic.org: detection

Open NLinCH opened this issue 1 year ago • 1 comments

I tried to reproduce the issue when...

  • [X] AdNauseam is the only extension
  • [X] AdNauseam uses default lists and settings
  • [X] Using a new, unmodified browser profile

Description

Detects "Ad Blocker" (AdNauseam) on the second and consecutive loadings of the drakecomic.org. Safe for Workplace/School in breaks

(Not relevant for the Issue but a hinderance to reporting it: It was difficult to find out where to report the issue. There is furthemore a circular reference to report via the link in the contributing guidelines and the speechbubble (report a problem on this page ->) report a filter problem.

Steps to Reproduce

The site works again after reloading with AdNauseum deactivated and after reloading after adding UBlock Origin. The site also seems to work with AdNauseam and UBlock Origin activated at the same time. I believe The First time a the site with AdNauseam was loaded it did show a 3.pubfuture.com based Add (had some annoyance in the past with it; but deactivated my personal filter for testing).

This is avoided by activating "strict-mode" on the adnauseam popup. Btw @dhowe i realized that strict-mode is more effective when the reload is deleting cache, so I added a 'bypassCache' in the reload triggered by the refresh button when a page is set to "strict-mode":

another matter is that it seems that I often wonder how effective our 'adn-allows' still are in the current state of ads on the internet. My impression is that strict-mode often does not hinder ad-collection very much, and makes a big difference in websites such as these which are very aggressive in their ad-display...

interesting question -- can we compile some metrics on this? perhaps looking at common news sites as a test ?
