Not Understanding Hard Coded Value in Matlab Script

Hi, I see in the read_bf_file.m there is a hard coded value of 187 to check if (code == 187). The associated comment with that is "If unhandled code, skip (seek over) the record and continue". This part is not clear to me. Where does 187 come from and why violation of this condition is considered as "unhandled code"?

I'm not sure either but I can think it as maybe checksum to detect errors in the data. it's like integrity check. hope it helps :)
