[FR] External Storage

Open Renizmy opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

Hello,

The solution seems to be realy interesting but there is a problem from my point of view, the compute is not separated from the storage. This blocks natively highly available deployments (K8S, ASG ..). It could be interesting to manage the storage through a bucket for a full cloud native solution.

Best Regards,

HI @Renizmy

Thanks raising that up! We didn't look yet at deployments in these solutions by lack of time. Could you please describe in details what would be necessary/required for it to be natively supported?

The same way our current docker compose uses the volume, wouldn't it be possible to configure the pods to mount k8s volumes?

Hello, From my point of view, PVC could handle the job but but unless you are using a cloud cluster (EKS/GKE) it is not created to have a persistence of data on a (very) long term It would be necessary that the pods connect to the same PVC, manage the writing state etc.. Buckets already support these mechanisms natively. The fact of dissociating the storage and the compute also allows to extend the deployment possibilities of the solution
