Feature request: Blacklist for applications where Vimac is disabled

Open benwoodward opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

First off, I'm so grateful for Vimac, I think it'll probably save me 45 mins a day, thank you!

Problem: Vimac is not useful to me when using iTerm2, and when using Vim it's difficult to find a good Vimac hotkey that's not already used by an existing Vim shortcut.

Suggestion: Make it possible to disable Vimac when specific applications are focussed.

I think there's a probably a workaround I could come up with using a custom karabiner mapping, but native Vimac solution would be ideal.

That's a good suggestion, and may be useful for other non-compatible applications.

I'm using the Vimac "Hint Mode Sequence" feature to trigger on "fj" (the default is also good, "fd"). I find it much faster than a modifier key shortcut.

The downside of this is that it seems to creates a small delay after every f that is typed into Vim. Thanks for the suggestion, will keep experimenting to find workarounds.

@benwoodward

The downside of this is that it seems to creates a small delay after every f that is typed into Vim.

There isn't a delay if you type another character immediately after. My understanding is that in vim the f command is usually followed by another character, so this wouldn't be an issue.

I'd love to hear what activation method you end up using and what workarounds you use. I think the activation method is probably something that stops a lot of users from building a habit out of using Vimac. Most keyboard shortcuts are too painful to hit repeatedly which is why i implemented the key sequence activation.
