Some pages seem to fail on slow networks (3G or 2G networks)

[ ] Possible mitigation is reducing or removing the background network requests. We have network requests that run in a webwork and cache global maps data. This could be done away with on devices with slow network.
[ ] Another solution is to ensure server side data fetching for some components. This seems to be the most promising solution.

update on this; I have currently made the fetching of background data very secondary such that it's of less impact. Will need to extensively test this on slower internet speed.
