Support for ".rom" enhancement chips

Open PrincessPleco opened this issue 6 years ago • 4 comments

Currently when you boot a game like Super Mario Kart the emulator asks for the DSP1 chip (or DSP1B chip). But it won't accept the .rom format that bsnes v0.087 or later wants. It'll only accept the old .bin format.

Any possibility of support being added for the .rom version of the files as well?

Could be done, but the tricky part would be to make sure that it can handle the fact that both versions of each ROM would have different hashes. I'll see about it at some point.

Another possibility would be to support the later .rom format instead of the older .bin format and avoid the trickiness altogether. Even if only till both are accepted, possibly. According to Byuu, the .rom versions are more accurate anyway.

I've considered doing that as well; I think the only reason I stuck with them originally was because sd2snes also uses the .bin versions. Either way, I'll probably figure out what to do after the next release.

Hello. Any updates on this? I still think it would be a good idea for bsnes-plus to follow bsnes on this. The ".rom" versions were what Near held as the correct versions. Maybe an option to toggle which version is used if changing this overall isn't acceptable?
