Sound waveform visibility

I'd like to be able to see the sound waveform of the whole video on the screen, while editing. It would help me quickly edit videos, as a visual cue to understand where i am situated in the video, see where is that annoying bang i want to edit out, or cut out the beginning and end of a song for example.

I imagine it could replace the current line along which we move the cursor to play the video or cut some parts. It could also just appear as a background, transparent image over that same line.
