Docs page on Arrow data input

Open kylebarron opened this issue 3 months ago • 6 comments

Separate docs page that explains how to pass in Arrow data input. The methods for passing in shapely/geopandas/duckdb are well documented, but I don't think it's clear enough that you can pass arrow data straight into the constructor.

@kylebarron do you want any assistance on this? I'm pretty familiar with passing geoarrow data into the constructors (that's how I'm passing data to lonboard for the visualizations in the spatial polars ) I should have some time this weekend. I could make some docs using pyarrow tables/geoarrow metadata if ya'd like

I'd be happy to review a PR on this! In conjunction I'm fixing some Arrow-related bugs like #872 that I came across while making a demo yesterday.

I think we could have a section for Arrow data in general, and then specific examples with pyarrow, geoarrow-pyarrow, geoarrow-rs, geodatafusion, spatial polars, etc.

I just popped thru the docs, unless you think otherwise, I'll probably just expand on this page: https://developmentseed.org/lonboard/latest/ecosystem/geoarrow

Well, for one, that page is outdated and geoarrow.rust.io.read_geojson doesn't even exist 🙈

Perhaps we need to have a "user guide" or something like that. I think of the "ecosystem" section as "Lonboard can be used with these tools". But I want a section of the docs to nudge people into Arrow or Arrow-related tools. So something a little more visible than inside the middle of the ecosystem section.

yeah that probably would be good to have a user guide. I'll leave this one for ya'll to tackle. I'll may see if I can get that datafilter extension filter_categories stuff to working this weekend

If you feel like writing anything, feel free to make a PR and then I'll rework it into a user guide
