Automatically open links on certain sites in an archive
Not a problem but a feature request: on some sites (eg Times of London) I always want to open links in a new window showing the archive of the linked page
Describe the solution you'd like Could there be a preference to set certain sites to open an archived version automatically by clicking on a link on those sites?
Describe alternatives you've considered Currently I control-click on a link and select "Search archive.is for Page"
I know this is laziness on my part, but so often I forget to do this with The Times, and end up with their "Please log-in or sign-up page"!
This feature would also be useful for websites that are no longer available, we could have a configurable URL list that always redirects to an archive.
I'm not sure about the exact behavior you have mentioned, but you could configure the extension to redirect example.com/articles/* to an archive, while still loading the home page without redirection.
Please share any other feedback you have about how automatic browsing of archived sites should behave and describe your use cases, so we can get a better idea about how the feature should be implemented.
I'd suggest the user can add sites to a list in the preferences. On these sites, clicking a link will open an archive site showing the page if available, or giving the option to save it if not (just as archive.is does at present). This could be set to open in the same tab, or in a new tab. Sites that are not in this list will behave in the usual way, with the option of opening a link normally, or with the help of an archive site.
