images go out of focus

I'm running feh for a slideshow on a Raspberry Pi with a network connection to a NAS with JPG files. Each image is displayed for about 15 seconds. Frequently the image is displayed for about 5 seconds, goes out of focus for another 5 seconds, then comes back into focus for the final 5 seconds. Is there a setting I can use that eliminates this behavior?
