Distracting horizontal scrolling behaviour in list view

In list view exclusively, scrolling horizontally has a smoothing animation that makes it slow and delayed (both the file view and the scrollbar seem to lag behind and jump around when dragging the scroll thumb around. This isn't a performance issue, horizontal scrolling is incremental (the left-most column of the view always has to sit neatly on the left) and it's always waiting for the interpolation animation to stop.

The animation is fairly distracting and while I understand why horizontal scrolling behaves this way, I'd make do with the animation altogether (snapping to the target position, which seems to be how vanilla Win 10 does it).
