Is this project dead?

I want to know if this project will be update and reactivate the maintenance? I found this very useful, and many people could take the leadership, because the last change was 3 years ago.

Would be interesseted, too to know. Still love this project very much and use it quite frequently. But it is noticable, that the server is often overloaded as discussed earlyer.

Last commit was made by @max-dn , and GitHub shows that he was last active in November 2021...

Hello all, the OpenTopoMap project is sleeping at the moment. I'm busy with life. @max-dn and me still maintain the servers - you know they are still up and running. However, user numbers and traffic increases and we might need better hardware. And I still have great plans for OpenTopoMap, but job, children, home and garden don't leave much spare time at the moment.

How can we (help to) put more life in OpenTopoMap? - By setting up more servers? - Is there a possibility (for ppl with relatively little tech knowledge) to set up an offline version of OpenTopoMap, so that we don't have to burden the main server with repeated requests for the same thing over and over again? I use OTM almost every day, but the 'speed' is very disappointing.

Please let me know how to help the project. Is there a Foundation , are there some rules? (please see also bug comments on https://github.com/der-stefan/OpenTopoMap/issues/370 ) Thank you

Hi,

I have rewrite the scripts from this repo and I can give you them if you want.

Hi seb, I'm also considering restarting this projet (or more likely a backup server for small volume) and I am reworking a bit import scripts, or conversion script (for saddle, lowzooms, peak proeminence) Could you :

  • Give your modifications on the scripts and what are the goals of your modifications ?
  • Tell us if you have a working instance / clone of OTM ?
  • Are your modifications on a git repo ?

My repo is here : https://github.com/RefugesInfo/OpenTopoMap/tree/sly-version

There is https://opentopomap.cz/#map=3/49.87/79.66, but limited coverage.

Thanks for pointing it : Coverage might only be a problem of server ressources, but that proves someone else manage to configure a server for OTM. Do you know the opentopomap.cz maintainer(s) ? I can't find the technical details of their setup, what server they are using, is there any modification/improvement on the OTM historical styles ?

See topic here https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/opentopomap-cz-opentopomap/88880 (Russian only). Yes, there are many improvements in the OTM style.

Hi all, I am now working on a vector map and I am happy to get very nice looking results with tilemaker and MapLibreGLJS. But there is still some work to do before I go public. Until then, the raster map will be still operated and I try to take care of the server. But once I am fully satisfied with the new vector map, the raster map will probably be shut down. The toolchain of osm2pgsql, PostGIS and Mapnik is very bulky compared to mbtiles generated with tilemaker. Please be patient with me and notice that there is major work going on at the moment.
