Does not work! - Forcefully Reboots / Shuts Down, Corrupts All Updates in Progress
Summary: This utility only forcefully reboots / shuts down Windows, it fails to ask Windows Updates to do this. This then corrupts the updates and the PC must then redownload them.
I used this utility, excited to have something I could set and forget. Created a script ran a few PCs that were taking the next 24H2 upgrade. Each of them had completed the downloads and just needed to install the upgrade. I did so using the -r switch as described. It only rebooted the PCs and it did so instantly. It didn't tell Windows Updates to reboot when ready, it just rebooted the PCs forcefully, which included shutting down Windows Updates - causing a loss of all upgrade progress. Once the PCs came back up, they had to re-download the updates and start over. Windows Updates service must have deemed the entire process it previously did as corrupted from the forceful reboot.
So warning to anyone! This will corrupt updates and forcefully reboot the computer. That's all it does. It sends "shutdown -r -f" and you will loose all update process, Windows must then redownload all updates it was working on.
@MNLierman This tool isn’t needed anymore, anyway.
On Windows 11 (24H2 at least), if updates have a restart pending after having been installed, just using shutdown /s /t 0 is enough, the PC will finish the updates and then shut down as if the “Update and shut down” option was clicked.
