Works on newer macOS (tested on sonoma / macOS 14) for me. what is the second device? what is the DC version and the logs of the other device?
Existing second mobile device are iPhone SE w/iOS 17.1.1 and iPad mini w/iPadOS 15.8. Both devices are running Delta Chat 1.42.8.
I'm in the process of gather the logs from both devices after a failed add 2nd device attempt.

please reopen if this issue persists on new versions of delta chat. (the new iOS versions also have a real log again, the version you tried only had debug info, but no actual log lines)
