Show completed and Group By options in the side pane

Open alanmjackson opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

Hi, This is an excellent plugin thanks!

This is a feature request - could you make the Group By and the Show Completed options quickly accessible in the side pane view of the checklist, and not just on the settings page?

I find I want to keep switching between those options depending on what I'm doing.

Thanks!

Alan

Interesting. I assumed people wouldn't ever switch between those too often. I'm curious what your usage is that has you switching a lot? I'm not all the way opposed to adding some setting functionality to the sidebar, but would need to be thoughtful about where to draw that line. Should we change sort from there as well? what about the main tag?

Todo tasks are created in different contexts and done in different contexts. I may be in a note I'm writing during a meeting or activity and get a recommendation of something to check out later. I'll create a todo item using a sub-tag like #todo/checkout. There's a certain context I'll be in when it's appropriate to look through things to checkout, but they're not the most urgent. Then I want to see my todo items sorted by type or tag.

Other times I'll create todo items when I'm in a note about a particular piece of work or activity. In this case the name of the note the todo item is in is the context. So I might want to see all the todo items that relate to that piece of work and so I want to group todos by note.

For instance imagine I'm doing some work for two different projects and have a note on each project. In each note there might be a todo item saying "send invoice". Without the title of the note I won't know what the todo item means. The todo might look like:

  • [] #todo/accounts Invoice up to [[2021-03-31]]

I might want to do all my accounts stuff at one time so I could group my todos by sub-tag, then all the #todo/accounts ones will be grouped together, but then I'll want to change the grouping so I can see what Note a todo relates to.

What I'd really like to be able to do is order my todos by priority order in the list itself - be able to drag items up and down the list so I give myself a priority order for my tasks. So there may be another grouping of todos which is ungrouped in priority order.

Also sometimes I want to see my completed tasks - it helps me understand the context of outstanding tasks or just makes me feel good about how much I have done rather than simply seeing the list of stuff I haven't yet done. And other times seeing all the completed tasks clutters my view and doesn't help me see what needs doing where essential tasks are pushed off the bottom of the screen.

Cheers!
