Location map as a heat map instead of picture thumbnails

When there are lots of pictures in the same region, the location map can become buggy. Also, the thumbnails shown are selected randomly, and some might not be relevant at all. Moreover, as these are aggregated together, it's hard to determine the specific locations where the user takes the most pictures. Regarding the preview menu at the bottom, it's quite small and can't be expanded.

Describe the solution you'd like

A more responsive and visual solution is to represent the pictures in the region with a heat map. For reference, a screenshot of the same region and photos in Google Maps, which has a heat map interface. The pictures can be consulted in the drop-down below, and only when a picture is selected it is shown with the thumbnail in the map. This increases responsiveness and allows for a more precise overview of where the user takes the most pictures.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Showing the picture locations as points in the map, instead of showing the thumbnails. However this can become overcrowded, and a heap map might be more readable.

I agree, the heat map is a useful alternative view. There were technical limitations when I initially designed the map page years ago, and maybe the situation improved on that front. Someday, I hope to revisit this.
