Calendar view

  • Description

I habitually take photos of various things, but not on all days. Then after a few months when I need to refer to an image taken on a particular date, I need to scroll a lot to reach that particular date. Currently I use the SECTIONS BY DAY feature to group my photos. Even if I use the SECTIONS BY MONTH feature, it is just a mass of photos without an easy way to find the exact date. If I switch to LIST VIEW it gives me the date information on the right side but does not solve the scrolling problem.

  • Suggested solution

In the ALBUMS tab once I have clicked on a particular album/folder, take me to an intermediate page looking like the linked screenshot below (which is a scrollable monthly calender view) where I can quickly decide if the particular date range I am looking for has any photos taken or not, and then reach the date intended by tapping to the date. Scolling whole months up and down is faster than scrolling date wise. Once a date is tapped on, the next page/view will be the present SECTIONS BY DATE so that I can scroll up and down if the exact photo was taken a day or 2 before/after.

An example of the sort of view I am looking for taken from my electricity billing app - https://postimg.cc/hh7mHxC8

  • Alternative proposal

As an alternative/quick fix, only the date may be superimposed on the thumbnail in the SORT BY MONTH view. This is still not as compact as the above method but may be quicker to implement. (I do not have programming knowledge so please excuse my assumptions)

  • Additional context

This was actually present in the Piktures app a few years ago, but they removed it after some update.

When you select sections by day, do you know that you can fast scroll by grabbing the scrolling thumb on the right? When you fast scroll, there is an overlay text next to the thumb, indicating where you are within the sections (showing the day when having day sections). It may be useful to you.

Also, the Stats page is contextual. So you can open your album, then go to the Stats page and the histogram will show on which days/months photos in that album were taken. When you select a point in the histogram, you can tap on the filter below to see media items from that day/month only.

That aside, I'd like to implement a calendar view someday. Not sure what the UX will be like, though.

Scroobar grabbing is an option indeed but I find it fiddly and difficult to control. It often overshoots and I keep going back and forth.
