Questions about DIF spec tracking
(To discuss in a TSC meeting)
I have some questions about the DIF spec tracker and the specs referenced from there.
- What is the difference between link and permanent link? Is link meant to go to the current working version? If so, we need to clarify and update
- What "status" are the specs meant to have (in text) after SC approval? Should we make sure they say "DIF Ratified Specification"? If so, we may need to audit and update
For reference, here is the work item lifecycle document
- Columns are confusion
- Permanent link should point to the version not working draft.
- Permanent link : point to the current version
- Link : Live/Rolling version
- Rename column to be named Working Draft.
- Consider new names "Released Versions"
- Is finalized/non-finalized the right terms.
- Ratified vs. unratified.
- Align columns
- What do we need the status column for?
- Just combine the columns
- Latest Ratified Version / WIP
- Combine the Tables?
- Status Column : Covers it
- Second last column : Publish / Ratified Versions
- Last Column : Working Draft.
Discussed at TSC Meeting.
Those are good points. My thoughts:
- The permanent link (versions) vs link (working draft) distinction makes sense to me
- I think I’m leaning towards combining the separate tables into 1 table because then it’s easier to add versions, etc as we go
- We can remove the “unofficial status” column; this doesn’t make sense. These terms seem to be aliases; see this section: https://github.com/decentralized-identity/org/blob/main/work-item-lifecycle.md#74-final-approval
