remember we are limited to 10 characters in a field name w/ .shp files! we can all edit the comment that @mhweber made above, til we agree, if you're good...

I like CAT_SQKM, but for the other, I think just using AREASQKM would be better, it is the area of the geometry that it's describing so might be simpler.

not sure that I'm reading this right, but the driver `GeoJSONSeq` is used for segmented reads and writes. [geojsonseq](https://gdal.org/en/stable/drivers/vector/geojsonseq.html) wouldn't you want to use the `GeoJSON` driver if you want...
