It could be nice to have the possibility to also have the codes of historical countries as an option? This would comes in handy if one works on a project set in the past. The list is quite short. From https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO-3166-1-Kodierliste I find:

DDR, YUG, ANT, SCG, SUN, CSK

What do you think?

It's standard practice to use ISO-3166-3 codes for historical countries, rather than formerly-valid ISO-3166-1 codes.
