(too) many ways to switch to a recent document

Open mrwth opened this issue 4 years ago • 3 comments

This is probably both low-priority and controversial, but still: In software >= 2.9 there is the "official" recent docs switch, and also the switch provided by hacks (which actually provides 2 gestures, one for the previous document and one for a list of recent documents). It feels a bit too much and maybe one of these methods could/should be dropped.

(I am actually happy with the new "official" thing, but that's even more controversial.)

Good point, but it is hard to choose:

  • The official 2.9 Doc-Switch provides Favorites as well. I use that
  • The ddvk version is nice and fast (no rendering, only names) I can live with having both. But I am a heavy user of the Previous Doc hack (2 fingers down). Whatever happens, this needs to stay......

I couldn't decide either. I use my version, because I prefer text, but to each their own. Also recent files is shown on the home screen.

Also the 2 finger swipe down gestures conflict a bit, but for those accustomed it would have been a nuisance.

@ddvk Thanks for making that decision and awesome work. We need to preserve two finger to open recent file fast and the long recent file list you made. Your implementations are so much more efficient than the official ones. Still, I think some people enjoy the charm of the official implementation.

I think a good idea would be to have a setting to toggle between both recent-file modes? Although, that is more work, but it would fix this issue and reduce clutter. I'd rather prefer your method and have the official implementation only show favorites, to be honest.
