Option to submit demos to website
Adding a section to the website to submit < Rank 5 demos of maps, having a tab on the official website where players have the option of voluntarily sharing their best runs to the site.
This would allow speedrunners to look through demos and find any potential skips or tricks, and further improve the best times, without really hurting either side of the "public demos" argument, and casual players could use this to find out how to do certain parts on a map.
It would also allow content creators to easily find good demos that have been submitted to use in their videos, without having to ask the demo owner directly.
Maybe some option in-game to save your demo to the website as well, to further encourage it, but I'm not sure how complicated that would be.
There's this already, but nobody use it: https://www.speedrun.com/ddracenetwork_ddnet
Not sure we have enough disk space as well.
i think this would be really cool, however i think this is a job of the community, not of the developers only. id be interested in doing it. it would be similar to skins.tw. i dont know who runs that. would be nice if you can either play them online or play a rendered snapshot
Other idea. Make a button that uploads demo as mp4 to youtube (or something equal). Link the videos on the rank page (or embed).
- more publicity for the game
- we don’t need to buy storage
- better accessibility than loading a demo.
with a shared yt acc? idk who is doing that / done that before. would be nice, but how to store the password for automatic upload. is there a youtube upload api?
also i think storing demos is much more memory efficient, but who cares
gittube teeworlds demos

There are a few issues with this, and honestly some might apply to my idea as well

If the whole process is automatic, people could spam upload, upload unwanted stuff (nsfw/nsfl, etc), stuff like that.
-
You can't view it with custom settings (Zoom, POV, Speed, Skins, etc) as its already a rendered video file.
-
Demos are also way more efficient in storage, it would take some space still, but with only some people uploading demos occasionally, I don't think it would be that big of a problem to store it ourselves, but I could be wrong.
And not to mention, we already have TeeHistorian which I think has demos of everyone that has played on DDNet, but at reduced graphics to save space (Since its only for moderator purposes & Locked to mods only
I personally think if this were to be implemented it would be better just to go with the raw demo rather than a video file, the accessibility could be annoying but its not that hard to download the demos and view them on your own client.

Does this include demos? Or is this video files only? Also I'm not even sure if many people know we have a category on speedrun.com.
I feel like having our own system for it would be better but if its something we cant do then I guess speedrun.com could work

No of course not. People use their own accounts. Or you use a account less service. (Which is still 3rd party)
also i think storing demos is much more memory efficient, but who cares
that’s why 3rd party hosting.

See answer above.

I am not sure about how many people will actually load a demo in their client. I think a video does the job.

Again. 3rd party. We don’t worry about disk space.

I don’t know much about that but it seems complicated.

Keep in mind that it would be a good idea to keep it as user friendly and easy as possible. If you design it too complicated users won’t use it. Easy scenario would be, you have a link to some youtube video for the map in the serverinfo tab. This way you just click on it (also works as a new player in the game) and are able to watch a run which shows you how the map is played well.
Even this https://www.speedrun.com/ddracenetwork_ddnet/run/ylr3713y is a video, you can see the keypresses and I guess that is enough is it?
Maybe you can even use speedrun.com for the job as well. (with youtube under the hood) But I don’t know how speedrun.com works so I ll leave that Idea as it is.
(teehistorian) add the graphics back - and only save the first best run (same time) for ddnet.tw on each map. (teamrank)
