Maybe show the legend in a floating HTML element/outside the plot in Shiny? Also for basic plotting?

- *without* cluttering visually the plot too much, especially challenging for (partially) overlapping events - for SVG+HTML, maybe a sort of mouse-over highlighting?

SVG: test on Edge, Firefox, Chrome/Chromium, Opera, Safari on Win7, Win10, Linux and macOS

Especially on IE8 and IE9 as they are known to have serious issues with SVGs...
