Error of geo coordinates (latitude and longitude) in many places of South Africa

Open redsk opened this issue 7 years ago • 2 comments

It seems that many places in South Africa store incorrect coordinates. Take for instance (but it seems to apply to most cities in South Africa):

http://dbpedia.org/page/Port_Elizabeth http://dbpedia.org/page/Johannesburg http://dbpedia.org/page/Cape_Town http://dbpedia.org/page/Centurion,_Gauteng

On the one hand, geo:lat is positive and it should be negative as it's below the Equator). On the other hand, dbp:latns and dbp:longew are missing (they show the North/South and East/West hemispheres in the DMS coordinates).

Interestingly, this problems does not seem to apply to nearby countries; see for instance:

http://dbpedia.org/page/Gaborone (Botswana) http://dbpedia.org/page/Windhoek (Namibia) http://dbpedia.org/page/Maputo (Mozambique) http://dbpedia.org/page/Mbabane (Swaziland) http://dbpedia.org/page/Maseru (Lesotho - but here geo:lat and geo:long are correct, dbp:latns is missing and dbp:latd is negative!)

Cheers, Nico
