Cryptonose buggy splash screen (or something)

I tried to use cryptonose-2.23.1 on Arch Linux, but it messes up the whole desktop by popping up a white, empty square (I suppose it is meant to be some kind of splash screen?) which stays on top of everything, cannot be removed or moved, and shows on all virtual desktops, unless I close cryptonose. Both the .zip and .deb versions have the same issue.

I also started cryptonose with _JAVA_OPTIONS="" /opt/cryptonose/bin/Cryptonose to make sure my java settings does not interfere, but no luck.

The window manager is AwesomeWM.
