Hi @j6k4m8, I appreciate you asking! I don't believe it would make a difference either way. My understanding is that setup.py/poetry/uv all appear the same in PyPI.

If this is something you urgently want, I'd recommend forking the project and putting the change in. I don't expect I'll get to doing this until I have the need...

That is a good question. Serializing an image and reloading it changes how it looks. I wasn't sure if this check for the `layers` attribute was at one point intentional...
