Autofit pdf markdown output

Using autofit(), or set_table_properties(layout="autofit") makes really great looking tables in the viewer, or html output. Is it possible to extend this functionality to paginated output in pdf or word so that similar clean looking tables are rendered that fit the page width of the pdf output?
