Systax error during installation

I am getting a systax error here during Step 4: run the server https://github.com/davidflanagan/wifi-setup/blob/65dc097a646be4264b2c94c774c0cc7e441811c6/index.js#L19

pi@raspberrypi:~/wifi-setup $ sudo node index.js
/home/pi/wifi-setup/index.js:20
  .catch(() => { startServer(); startAP(); });
          ^
SyntaxError: Unexpected token )

And expectedly running the next steps

$ sudo cp config/wifi-setup.service /lib/systemd/system
$ sudo vi /lib/systemd/system/wifi-setup.service # edit paths as needed
$ sudo systemctl enable wifi-setup

does nothing. Not after a reboot and not manually doing sudo systemctl start wifi-setup.

How to debug this issue?
