Closing out as this is addressed by https://github.com/hashicorp/consul-k8s/pull/1821. This will be released with Consul K8s 1.0.x and Consul K8s 1.1.x.

Re-opening as the changes had to be reverted prior to our GA release.

This was discussed recently whether it would be viable to make this change. Currently would introduce a lot of changes for the integration testing side of Consul-k8s so we've delayed...

@komapa Would resolving https://github.com/hashicorp/consul-k8s/issues/3520 also solve this issue?
