Terribly slow in some browsers

Hello, I would like to ask if you know the problem I have here. It's the same situation than this one: https://github.com/richardshepherd/Parallax-Scrolling/issues/6

It works fine for Firefox and Safari (very smooth, indeed), but terribly slow in Chrome, Opera or IE. Any solution?
