Proposal: Improving druid-operator project governance

Open yurmix opened this issue 9 months ago • 4 comments

Edited the proposal to be more specific. The concern here is future sustainability of the open-source project, since it isn't established under a foundation or other form of governing body.

I propose that we clarify and resolve any existing intellectual property concerns and then pursue one of two options: 1. Contribute the project to ASF, to be managed under the Apache project. Many other projects have successfully taken this route with an official Operator. 2. Create a separate project and governing body. While this might introduce some overhead, it could also ensure continuity and a clear governance model.

You can try convincing druid PMC, i tried. Read it here. No one has time and the process isn't straightforward. SaaS providers who are giving managed druid are likely not interested to invest in operator.

Regarding PM, feel free to suggest and contribute i am open to add folks to repo who are willing to collaborate.

Regarding commits the core druid controller has been stable, recently ingestion controller was added which has been evolving.

Thank you @AdheipSingh, I truly appreciate 100% your efforts and continued leadership and contributions to the project.

I'm glad that the project is in good shape. This is more about the future health. I would love to actively push this idea forward (but waiting to hear from more users).

Hey @yurmix, myself and a few others who use the operator within our organization, would like to participate in the discussion around the future of the project. We should find time to connect with yourself and the community.
