Crime Code Brief Description
I'm wondering if you have a list of the various crimes and their codes that you used for this (great) piece? I made a good list by parsing out duplicates from their open data records for the last four years of data (attached).
So, how did you determine a crime was more serious? Did you first look at all crimes by recorded crime code and then work to identify variances in the narratives? Once you found potential variances how did you determine the suspected reclassification candidates?
Finally, what set of codes is the LAPD using? Is it unique to the city? I tried correlating them with CA Penal Codes and no luck there. What I'm trying to learn is if there's some kind of master list of all possible LAPD crime codes - which, when comparing to reported crimes one might find a lot of crimes not actually reported (eg. DUI which I've often seen classified as '847f'). That just led to the thought that perhaps their published datasets (eg. https://data.lacity.org/A-Safe-City/LAPD-Crime-and-Collision-Raw-Data-2014/eta5-h8qx) don't include motor vehicle related crimes?
Thanks for any insight you might give!

Hi! I am sorry for butting into this thread, but I am also interested in knowing how LAPD crime codes are differentiated into Part I and Part II crimes. @jerryhall @bposton3 any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time.
