Gaussian blur - introduction to the function
Hi all. We have just run this pilot today and yesterday. One thing that was mentioned, is that it might be nice to have a very brief intro to what a gaussian/normal distro is. Just an image, and a quick note about the mean, and sigma.
Something like this: (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaussian_function#/media/File:Normal_Distribution_PDF.svg)
Thanks for the suggestion. I agree that we cannot assume learners will be familiar with Gaussian distributions or be able to quickly recall the primary characteristics of such a distribution when following the lesson.
As the image you linked is in the public domain, we can go ahead and use it in the lesson. I think the image plus a couple of sentences explaining the most important characteristics of a Gaussian - the shape, the mean (in this context, at the coordinate of the pixel being blurred), and how that shape changes based on the sigma parameter - should be plenty.
Would you be willing and able to submit a pull request to add this content to the lesson, @shaw2thefloor?
Hi Toby....yep I'll get on that. Expect a pull request in the next week or so.
Thanks @shaw2thefloor. Looking forward to reviewing it - please let me know if I can support you with it.
