Federated Wiki + Dat Planning Thread (Mozilla Science Lab Summer Sprint 2015)

Open max-mapper opened this issue 9 years ago • 2 comments

@wardcunningham and myself will be working on a project for the mozilla science lab summer sprint involving the smallest federated wiki and dat

Let's use this thread to plan/brainstorm.

Existing ideas:

  • A good first experiment might be to write a dat plugin for wiki that could perform a dat query and present the result to other wiki pages. Wiki would be a good way for sharing interesting queries. A query would expect to find the dat repository on the server that holds the page. (A plugin has both a client-side and an optional server-side.) If I fork the page then I could run the query against my own dat repository.

If you are interested in helping out, introduce yourself in the comments below!

I've added this description to the Mozilla EtherPad.

Plan and/or prototype the integration of DAT and Federated Wiki. Both projects have been inspired by work done within Code for America and share philosophical goals. The two projects use similar technologies but tackle complementary problems with distinctly different architectures. International participation will be coordinated in this etherpad and other public sites. We'll work in 25 minute 'pomodors' in the USA Pacific timezone.

Several years ago we mocked-up a Wiki Research Laboratory where near continuous publication of methods and results would employ pages with specialized plugins specific to the work involved. http://lab.fed.wiki.org/view/welcome-visitors/view/wiki-research-laboratory/view/kleins-list

We later showed how low latency WebSocket connections could connect to scientific instruments or scientific applications on dedicated servers. The video shows the use of special purpose "markup" can simplify and generalize the sharing of setups. http://video.fed.wiki.org/view/welcome-visitors/view/federated-wiki-videos/view/22-things-txtzyme-websocket-plugins
